Albania has a rich history of winemaking dating back thousands of years. It is believed to be one of the oldest wine-producing regions in Europe, with evidence of viticulture dating to the Illyrians in antiquity.

Albania is known for its indigenous grape varieties dating back to centuries. Some of the most famous Albanian grape varieties are Kallmet, Shesh i Zi and Vlash.

Albanian wine has gained recognition and awards in recent years. Unfortunately, it is still relatively undiscovered by many wine enthusiasts outside of the region. Efforts are being made to introduce Albanian wines to the global market, as they rightfully deserve international recognition! Our country boasts some of the most diverse territories which allow for the natural growth of our splendid, authentic grape varieties. 

Albania has several notorious wine regions, with the most prominent being the Berat, Mat, Shkodër as well as different villages across Northern, Central and Southern Albania. Each of these regions has its unique terroir and grape varieties that make for some of our most exceptional wines.

Yes! Some traditional winemaking methods such as fermenting wine in clay amphorae and underground cellars are still practiced in some parts of Albania. The primary reason for doing so is preserving the cultural heritage of winemaking.
